Protection of Physical Safety
Protection of physical safety is present when the workplace is proactive in addressing physical hazards that help employees feel safe. This is a video created by Ottawa Public Health and the Mental Health Commission of Canada, and adapted with permission from Mindful Employer Canada. (time - 4:20)
Safety is paramount. Everyone has a role in keeping the workplace safe.
What can I do as an employee?
- Complete all mandatory training
- Ask questions if you are unsure of any procedures or protocols
- Report any safety concerns to your supervisor
- Submit accident/illness/incident forms to Rehabilitation Services
- Attend optional training sessions
- Ensure proper use of equipment by reading training manuals
- Before working with chemicals, read the GHS/MSDS sheets
- Remember that you have the right to refuse unsafe work
What can I do as a manager or supervisor?
- Be familiar with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Identify hazards, assess risks and control measure with OH&S
- Maintain an open-door policy and encourage employee to voice concerns
- Verify that all employees have completed and are current with training
- Ensure that all employees know how to report incidents
